ECMSA held its first conference in London in 1968 and since then has become a vibrant community. Originally constituted as a market researchers association (ECMRA), the association has changed with the times and followed the trends. The membership is now comprised of not only the original researchers, but other intelligence professionals, marketers, business strategists, commentators and consultants.
The management of ECMSA is undertaken by a voluntary Council comprised of at least 50% of its members coming from Industry with a maximum of 20 members. Council meets between 3 and 4 times a year. Beneath council are sub-committee that take care of day to day matters

Lejeune Association Management of The Hague has been appointed to handle the day-to-day administration and management of the association. Lejeune has 40 years of experience in association management and currently manages more than 20 European associations. It is Council’s view that the appointment is a key strategic step in the future development of ECMSA. Astrid Lejeune has taken on the challenging role of Secretary-General of ECMSA since January 1, 2005.
ECMSA membership is open to all people employed within the chemicals and allied industries and downstream companies with chemicals interests. Suppliers to the industry and commentators make up the balance of the membership, so that under one roof we house the cerebral thinkers involved in chemicals.
Membership is by on-line application and then subject to Executive Council approval.
